What goes on in our classes:
Each class will open with a warm-up based on stand-up techniques relevant to the style (Judo for Gi classes and Wrestling for No-Gi) or groundwork drills
After warming up, the main technique will be taught. Techniques will follow a theme which progresses in each class over a period of several weeks.
Positional sparring will follow, where sparring commences from set positions and re-sets after an objective has been achieved. Finally, full sparring will take place where participants can test their skills in a safe environment.
The beginners’ classes will begin with basic grappling movements such as learning to break-fall properly and partner movement drills.
After warming up, the main technique of the class will be taught. We show basic techniques/concepts from a specific position where you will able to drill/practise the techniques in your own pace. Coaches will be on-hand to offer any additional support. After drilling the new techniques, we go into the sparring portion of the class.
We start with positional sparring where sparring commences from a set position (from a position we will teach that session) and re-sets after an objective has been achieved. This provides the opportunity for beginners’ to explore the position and to try problem solve from there. There will often be an additional 1 or 2 postional rounds set from different positions. Finally, 1 or 2 full sparring rounds will take place where participants can test their skills in a safe environment.
Each class begins with a warm-up featuring movement drills and basic grappling-focused gymnastics — such as forward rolls, break-falls, and shrimps. Partner drills often follow, focusing on specific movement patterns to help students become comfortable with the fundamentals of BJJ.
After the warm-up, the main technique(s) will be taught. You’ll have the opportunity to drill these moves with a partner, while the coach is on hand to offer guidance and feedback.
Next comes positional sparring, where students start from specific positions and reset once an objective is achieved. Finally, the class ends with full sparring, giving participants the chance to test their skills in a safe, controlled environment.
